How A Famous Model Made Workboots Chic
Fashion can make the ordinary person extraordinary and a fashion icon can make the ordinary extraordinary. That's the power of fashion. It's all about image. This is the story of how a supermodel made a pair of dirty boots fashionable.
Jenn was a supermodel. She started her modelling career when she was just fifteen and by the time she was in her early twenties, she was walking the catwalks of Paris. She then landed a multimillion dollar contract with a major cosmetics firm. All she had to do was apply Lancome eye cream in front of a camera and say a few words.
In contrast to a lot of supermodels, Jenn's fame, beauty and wealth didn't go to her head. She was a down-to-earth young woman who shunned the spotlight. She liked nothing better than traveling and exploring the world.
She wanted to see it all, but she particularly liked getting away from it all and hiking in remote mountain areas, jungles and deserts. Everywhere she went, she took her favorite pair of old dirty leather brown boots. She loved those boots more than any of the haute couture she had ever worn on the catwalk.
Jenn had just returned from an African safari when it happened. She checked into a deluxe Nairobi hotel and went up to her room for a nice hot shower. After her shower, she did her hair, put on a little makeup and threw on a nice skirt and blouse. She didn't feel like wearing heels, though, so she just put on her boots and went downstairs.
She went out onto the street and went for a walk through the fashionable district of the city. While Jenn was browsing, a leather watch captured her attention. It was a perfect match with her boots, so she went inside and bought it. The purchase put her in a good mood, so she called her friends and told them to meet her in the hotel bar.
When she got to the bar, a paparazzo recognized her and snapped a photo of her looking at the time on her new watch. Within a week, that photo was on the cover of a major fashion magazine. Two weeks later, girls in brown workboots were seen everywhere on the streets of New York, London and Paris!
The story doesn't end there, though. While it was the boots that caught everyone's eye first, they then began to notice the watch. It was just a cheap watch and besides, its brand name wasn't visible. Jenn's manager had a brainstorm and had a watchmaker make duplicates. They marketed them as 'Jennwatch' and they sold like hotcakes!
